EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY PRIMARY CARE NURSE PRACTITIONER (1FTE) The Nurse Practitioner provides primary health care with a strong emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention within the scope of practice and standards of care as outlined in the Expanded Nursing Services for Patients Act and Regulations and the Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses in the Extended Class. The Nurse Practitioner diagnoses and manages acute illness within the scope of practice. The Nurse Practitioner works as part of an interdisciplinary team to address issues in the community that affect health. Collaboration and consultation with area physicians is expected. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible to uphold the standards of nursing practice and maintaining professional and ethical behaviour. The Nurse Practitioner serves the seven (7) First Nations and Off-Reserve in the District of Manitoulin Island. Noojmowin Teg Health Centre is a community-based primary health care organization committed to holistic and comprehensive care through both traditional and western healing methods. This position will work within a larger multi-disciplinary and collaborative health care environment comprised of health professionals from Noojmowin Teg Health Centre, area First Nations, and primary health organizations (Family Health Teams, Hospital etc.). Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time to time, exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar, may occur within the work setting. Qualifications/Requirements: •Graduate of B ScN., R.N. (E.C.) •Experience in the role of Registered Nurse Extended Class; •Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario; •Current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check; •Standard First Aid CPR/AED Certification; •Experience working within an e-health charting environment, important; •Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity of the Anishinabek culture; •Ability to speak Ojibwe, an asset; •Ability to travel and has a reliable vehicle.
